The mission of the St. Paul's Prayer Ministry is to enrich the prayer lives of those in its Christian Community through educational, experiential and service opportunities; and to provide prayer support for individuals, church staff, and ministries.

Prayer Shawls

Prayer is powerful! If you know of someone who is in need of prayers, consider giving them the gift of a prayer shawl. We have many beautiful shawls available in the church office – each one comes with a card and the best part is they are free to anyone! This is a great way to show your love, lift up someone in prayer, and to let someone feel God’s warm embrace around them. See the office for more information.

Shawl Makers

We are starting to run a little low on prayer shawls. We are getting lots of requests for them and also gave out shawls to the recent new member class. If you have the time to make one it would be greatly appreciated! You can be reimbursed for your yarn- we have received a few donations to help with the cost. If you would like to become a part of our prayer shawl makers, the office has the instructions for those of you who may already know how to knit or crochet, and if you'd like to learn we could put a class together.

KNIT A Prayer Shawl

Material needed: 3 to 3 1/2 skeins of yarn

Dimensions:  Adult- 20" x 48", Baby- 18" x 36"

Needle Size: 11 or 13

Cast on stitches in multiples of three- 54, 57 or 60 (depending on your gauge).

First row: K3, P3 to end

Second and following rows: Start with the opposite stitch of what you see. For instance, if the first stitch on the needle is a knit, then start with a purl. Knit the purls and purl the knits- it should not look like ribbing.  Note: If you cast on 57 stitches, you will always start with a K3.

Last row: Bind off at the desired length. Fringe is optional.

Last steps: Wash the shawl and bring it to the church office.

Crochet a prayer Shawl

Dimensions:  Adult- 20" x 48", Baby- 18" x 36"

Crochet Hook Size: M, N, or P

Chain 54 stitches or more to make the desired width.

First row:  Chain 1, turn, single crochet in each stitch to the end of the row.

Second row:  Chain 3 and turn, double crochet in top of each single crochet.

Third row: Repeat second row. Continue the three row pattern to the desired length.

Last row: Chain 1, turn, single crochet in each stitch to the end of the row.  Fringe is optional.
