Director of Worship and Music
Position Reports to: Senior Pastor
Salary Range: based on experience
Employment Status: Part-Time 20-30 hours a week to be discerned in the interview process
Position Overview
The Director of Worship and Music supports and affirms the identity, mission and vision of St. Paul’s by overseeing, directing and coordinating the music and choral ministry of the congregation to enhance the worship experience and to foster healthy and growing relationships with God and others.
Principle Accountabilities
Shapes and plans worship services from week to week and season to season in collaboration with pastors and worship volunteers.
Recruit members to music groups.
Provide opportunities for musicians to participate in regular and special worship services.
Help prepare bulletin/musical inserts as needed.
Maintain rotating schedule and master schedule of worship teams, musical groups/individuals.
Coordinate support for sound system and equipment for worship team and outside services in the summer.
Oversees our traditional music ministries by planning repertoire, rehearsing ensembles, and leading ensembles during worship. These include both the adult choir and handbell choir.
Coordinates guest instrumental and vocal musicians, including scheduling, rehearsing, and incorporating into the worship services throughout the year, particularly at Christmas and Easter.
Right of first refusal to play for all onsite weddings and funerals.
Other duties as requested by supervisor.
Job Skills Required
Demonstrated musical excellence.
Knowledge of varieties of music and worship types.
Good communication skills.
Good organizational skills.
Sufficient keyboard ability to read hymns, and anthem accompaniments as needed.
Knowledge of Lutheran worship tradition and theological understanding of varieties of church worship.
Experience as a team player in a church setting working with staff, musicians, and volunteers.
Qualifications
Worship Volunteer Coordinator
College Degree in Music or equivalent training/experience
Music background and/or education.
Prefer at least 3 years of previous experience.
