Message From Pastor Leon

Each year the church calendar sets aside 40 days (plus Sundays) to hear again the story of the last week of Jesus’ life. This Season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Holy Week. For centuries Lent has been a time of humility, repentance, self-denial, and soul searching as one draws closer to the Passion of Christ. Different churches have developed different traditions to observe the Lenten Season, and many individuals observe Lent by making it a time of self-sacrifice or renewed spiritual discipline. As a congregation we continue the American Protestant tradition of having an additional weekly worship service on Wednesday evening.

Easter is late this year (April 20) so Lent does not begin until March 5th. That day we will have our traditional Ash Wednesday worship services with Holy Communion, along with the Imposition of Ashes. Services will be at 5:30PM and 7PM with a meal served at 6PM.

The five mid-week Lenten services will again be using the Holden Evening Service liturgy. Service times will be at 5:30PM and 7PM, with a meal being served at 6PM. The theme for the series of five mid-week meditations will be “LIVING ON THE EDGE OF FAITH.” These meditations will look at the story of Christ’s suffering and death from the perspective of some of the people who were there; including some minor characters, like the maid who identified Peter in the courtyard, two soldiers, and ‘a city dweller.’

Join us each Wednesday evening for worship, fellowship, and a meal, as we take time to remember the week that Jesus suffered and died for the forgiveness of our sins.
