Message from Pastor Gorden...My Hope For the Future

Christmas has come early to the Estenson household this year.

For unto us were born two more grandchildren!

Yes, indeed Torsten was first, and four days later Stella made her appearance on the scene. Both children are doing very well and the parents have learned once again that sleep is a premium.

I continue to marvel at the birth of these babies as I did our own children. It is truly a miracle to watch these new lives come into being. As I ponder this in my heart it is clear that my children and now my grandchildren represent the HOPE for the future of our family to continue. Each one of these children is an absolute gift.

However, there is a birth of a child which still captures my interest this time of the year. God’s message to the world came in the form of a baby born in a stable.

Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name will be called Immanuel, (which means God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)

This baby was God’s HOPE for a world which was and still is trapped in sin. God saw the tremendous need of the people and allowed Jesus to be born into a broken world. To mend the human brokenness God ultimately would allow this baby to grow and then become the future HOPE of generations to come. In order to accomplish this salvation miracle God’s one and only Son would be sacrificed on a cross for our SIN. So, in a real sense this baby was destined to become God’s salvation miracle for everyone who would come to believe in him. This was a heavy burden to put on such a small child. Yet, God so loved the people, God was willing to give his Son as atonement for our sin. This is too good to be true. However, with God nothing is impossible.

Unfortunately there are many who have lost sight of this miracle. In a recent television program called My Hope America, The Reverend Billy Graham gave what will probably be his last message for a large audience. He celebrated his 95th birthday with a message for all who would listen. I can’t think of anyone in recent time who has been a more powerful witness for God. Billy Graham was God’s messenger of hope for a fallen world and my friend boldly preached this word to millions of people all over the globe. However, Graham said, “Our nation is in the need of a spiritual revival because people have strayed off the path and lost their focus on the miracle of Jesus.” The key to his message is that there is still HOPE. Even if we have wandered off the path it is still possible to get back on track. We need to resurrect our hope in Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. It is Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life who can be our hope for the future.

As you prepare for Christmas remember why we really have a reason to celebrate. It is because of God’s gift to a broken world. My hope for the future rests in the promise of a baby crying in the manger. This baby is in fact the only true hope we have for today and all the tomorrows to come. May you recapture the power of Jesus’ birth this Christmas to once again realize how the baby Jesus can transform your life.

Have a blessed and joyous Christmas!

A friend in Christ,

Pastor Gorden
