This is my favorite time of the year. October is a time of amazing changes. We move from summer to fall and behold the panoramic beauty of all the colors. At the end of this month we also celebrate the Reformation which was a huge transformation for Protestant churches throughout the world.

Martin Luther, a lone Augustinian Monk was not able support what he felt were abuses of church teaching. So, he started a renewal movement called the Reformation, which provided a much needed change for the church. My wife Rikka and I had the opportunity this summer to visit Luther’s home in Wittenberg, Germany. While walking through the museums I felt a strong kinship to Luther. The spiritual movement he began was simply to get the truth of scripture into the hands of everyday people. He had a faith conviction that if people would read the word of God they could experience the unconditional love and grace of God. The word is God’s way of bringing hope to the world.

“So Jesus said to those who believed in him, if you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples; you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John8:31-36)

There is a transformation happening in our state called, Bless Minnesota –Adopt Your Street in Prayer. Like the Reformation this is a movement caused by the power of the Holy Spirit to equip people to pray. The truth is that many families and communities are experiencing difficult times. Bless Minnesota is a grass roots prayer effort to bind people together in the spirit of prayer. Truth be told this is what the people of God do, they prayer for one another.

By God’s grace and mercy, St. Paul’s will join together with many other local congregations, businesses and organizations as partners in this growing movement. Programs come and go but this movement like the Reformation is here to stay. Together we will commit to praying for our neighborhoods and those living on the streets. This grass roots prayer evangelism effort can be a huge transition to bind our communities together in a spirit peace and love.

This renewal has such power it can even change the hearts of sworn enemies. One of the Bless MN prayer warriors reported he began by praying for everyone on his street. He even prayed for a neighbor he had not talked to in many years. The neighbor’s wife came over one day to ask him to pray for her husband who was having a very serious surgery. After a successful surgery his wife shared who had been praying for him. This prayer brought together these two as brothers. It will happen in your neighborhoods as well.

The kickoff of this movement for St. Paul’s will be on Sunday October 26, Reformation Sunday. You will hear more about this movement in the weeks to come. Our prayer team will facilitate the sign-up process. Watch your ministry notes on Sunday mornings for more information.

I am really excited to get St. Paul’s involved in this prayer evangelism effort. Please feel free to check out the website for BlessMN.org. We will be a part of a spiritual renewal effort throughout our state and our country.

Please join with me as we become better connected in a spirit of prayer.

A friend in Christ,

Pastor Gorden

“Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which passes all human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
