Message From Pastor Gorden

Sometimes it is good to remember where we have been in our life’s journey. Let me recall for you two special events in the past two months.

On May 15th twenty-five young people affirmed their Baptismal Promise. After the charge to continue growing in their faith and living in the community of faith they are asked, “Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism?” Each person being confirmed responds: “I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.”

Then the congregation is asked, “People of God, do you promise to support these sisters and brothers and pray for them in their life in Christ?” Each member present responds? “We do, and we ask God to help and guide us.”

Let us all rejoice with our newly confirmed as they join with us in proclaiming the Good News to the entire world.

On June 5 we celebrated with our graduating seniors a special Senior Recognition.

Eighteen of our twenty-three graduates shared in this very special send-off. As a church family once again we promised to continue praying for and supporting these young adults as they transition to school or the work force. This is another milestone for our youth.

Both these events are anchored by words from the prophet Jeremiah.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

We celebrate with all these young people as they go on their way rejoicing. Remember them in your prayers.

As a congregation we now enter into our summer journey. We just celebrated the summer solstice and so our long-awaited summer is finally here. The good news is that God has a plan for us as well. We are to take time in these months for rest and renewal. Make time available for vacations. A part of God’s plan I believe is to find time to relax and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Find time to worship and give thanks to our benevolent caring God.

Have a great summer!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
